How do lip fillers work?
Lip fillers work by injecting a substance, commonly hyaluronic acid (HA), into the lips to add volume, enhance shape, and create a desired aesthetic appearance. It’s important to know as much as possible about your treatments before you have them, in order for you to know what to expect.. this can also help calm the nerves!
Here’s a step-by-step explanation of how lip fillers work:
- Consultation:
- Before the procedure, you live have a consultation with one of our qualified nurse professionals.
- During the consultation, you will discuss your goals, preferences, and any concerns related to lip enhancement. The practitioner will also talk to you about what to expect before and after the treatment and anything you may need to do.
- If you’re unsure at all, this is the best time to ask about qualifications! Any reputable practitioner should have no problem providing you with their certificates!
- Assessment:
- This can be done during the consultation, but will also be carried our just before your treatment!
- The practitioner assesses your facial anatomy, lip structure, and overall health to determine the appropriate treatment plan.
- Factors such as lip symmetry, proportions, and the desired level of enhancement are considered.
- Preparation:
- Before the injection, we apply a topical numbing cream to minimize discomfort during the procedure.
- The selected filler substance, often hyaluronic acid, is prepared for injection and the skin cleaned to ensure the treatment is clinically clean.
- If you are a little nervous just let your injector know! There are a couple of little tips they can give you, and we also provide stress balls for some clients (if anything it’s a nice distraction!)
- Injection Process:
- The practitioner uses a thin needle to inject the filler substance into specific areas of the lips.
- The injection points are carefully chosen to achieve the desired lip shape, volume, and symmetry.
- Modeling and Shaping:
- As the filler is injected, the practitioner may mould or shape the lips to distribute the filler evenly and create a natural look.
- The process is often done gradually, allowing the individual and practitioner to assess the progress and make adjustments as needed. However, marked improvements can be achieved in just one session. Your practitioner will recommend when you may be due a top up.
- Immediate Results:
- The effects of lip fillers are visible immediately after the procedure. The lips may appear fuller and more defined.
- Some initial swelling and redness are common, but this usually subsides within a 72 hours.
- Post-Procedure Care:
- After the procedure, your will receive instructions for post-treatment care, this will include avoiding certain activities, applying a cool pack to reduce swelling, and refraining from touching or pressing on the treated area. All of our aftercare advice can be found here.
- Follow-Up:
- Lip filler is a straight forward treatment and often doesn’t require any follow-up. We do schedule review appointments if you are considering further treatments on a plan with us or would like us to assess your results.
- We provide ALL clients with an emergency number so you’re able to contact us if you’re unsure about anything during the healing process.
- The longevity of the results varies depending on factors such as the type of filler used and individual metabolism, but they are temporary. On average lip filler lasts 6 months after the first treatment then 8-12 months maintenance appointments are recommended.
It’s essential to note that the success of lip filler procedures depends on the skill and experience of the practitioner. Choosing a qualified and licensed professional is crucial to ensure both safety and satisfactory results. Additionally, individual experiences with lip fillers may vary, and potential risks and side effects should be discussed during the consultation. If you’d like to know more contact us today.
