Facial Threads, are biodegradable sutures, like stitches, that naturally dissolve in the skin. When used for cosmetic reasons, they can tighten and lift the skin. Loss of collagen is one of the main causes of ageing as the skin’s elasticity and structure is reduced. These threads stimulate cells called fibroblasts to produce more collagen and elastin in the skin.
Aesthetic threads can be used to address various concerns, including sagging skin on the face, neck, and body, as well as fine lines and wrinkles. The procedure is minimally invasive and requires little to no downtime, making it a popular choice for individuals looking to rejuvenate their appearance without surgery.
Depending on the area, and your personal goals, there are different types of threads. For these appointments we require a consultation, during which you will have a discussion with your nurse practitioner on which type of threads are most suitable to you.
Mono-Threads
These threads are strategically inserted into the skin to create a supportive mesh-like structure. As the threads dissolve over time, they stimulate the production of collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid in the skin, leading to firmer, smoother, and more youthful-looking skin. Although Mono-threads don't "pull" or "anchor" into the skin, they are incredibly effective at tightening the skin. Prior to the treatment, numbing injections are administered, meaning the treatment is painless. Multiple threads must be inserted within close proximity in order to sufficiently support the skin, this creates almost a scaffold in the skin. This treatment gives an immediate result, but also increased benefits of collagen stimulation over time. These long term results become visible after 6 weeks and continue to improve over 6 months. Following the sutures dissolving the results do not disappear, the skin will merely just begin to age as normal if you decide to stop getting treatments. Treatments can be repeated every 3 months. Once you are happy with the results, a maintenance appointment every 8-12 months is recommended.

PDO Threads
PDO cog threads work by providing structural support to the skin and stimulating collagen production, resulting in tighter, firmer skin. These type of sutures have spikes that are known as 'cogs' or barbs on, to help 'pull' and lift the skin. The cogs or barbs on the threads anchor into the skin tissue, creating a lifting effect in the treated area. This lifting action helps to redefine facial contours and improve sagging skin.
PDO Threads is less invasive procedure than surgery but can be used for treatments such as a face or buttock lift and lasts for approximately 12-18 months. Numbing injections are used during the treatment, to ensure the treatment is as comfortable as possible. During the healing process after PDO thread treatment, the threads may experience some degree of drop or settling. Typically, PDO threads may drop by approximately 20-30% as the skin adjusts and the threads integrate with the surrounding tissues. Following the procedure, you should expect puckering of the skin for up to 2 weeks. These threads dissolve over a 6-12 month period. Similarly to mono threads, the skin will not return to how it was prior to the treatment, it will just begin to age as normal. To prevent this, maintenance appointments are recommended annually. In order to have this treatment, a consultation is required. The skin integrity must be assessed prior to this treatment, and it may be that another treatment is recommended before undergoing PDO threads.

Your Treatment
Your procedure will be carried out in our clinical treatment room. Your nurse practitioner will administer a numbing solution. When this has taken effect, they will carefully begin the treatment. Sensations such as ‘stinging’, ‘dragging’, or discomfort are normal as the skin is lifted during the procedure. Your practitioner ensures you are as comfortable as possible throughout the entire process.

After your Treatment
Results are not visible immediately, unfortunately! You may experience some swelling, which will subside after the recovery period. You will be provided with in-depth aftercare advice from the practitioner. We encourage you to avoid touching the area on the day and remain hydrated. You will also be provided with antibiotics to prevent infection.

Pre-care instructions
- Please ensure you eat before your treatment
- Do not consume any alcohol before your appointment
- You may take paracetamol if you are concerned about pain
- Please avoid taking anti-inflammatory (e.g., Ibuprofen/Naproxen) medications either pre or post treatment as these can inhibit new collagen formation.
- Please avoid omega 3 fatty acids, green tea/extracts, alcohol and smoking for at least 5 days prior to treatment to reduce risk of bruising/ bleeding.
Aftercare Instructions
- Drink plenty of water to remain hydrated
- Maintain a high standard of cleanliness
- Wash with water only the evening of your treatment
- Your normal bathing routine can be resumed after 24-hours.
- Pain killers such as paracetamol can be taken, and pain will diminish over 2-weeks
- Gently wash the treated area for the next 14 days, DO NOT rub, scrub, or massage the area
AVOID
- Alcohol for 7-days following your treatment
- Touching the area for 24-hours and try to sleep on your back
- Strenuous exercise for 7-days
- Avoid applying or consuming vitamins A, C, E for 7-days
- Blood thinning medication, including aspirin for 7-days unless prescribed by your doctor (please seek advice from your GP prior to treatment and notify your practitioner
- Extreme temperatures such as such as sunbeds/bathing, sauna, steam rooms and extreme cold such as skiing for 7-days
- Any cosmetic procedures or dental treatment for 4 weeks including facials and eyebrow treatments
- Stay clear of all Radio Frequency (RF) including electrolysis, laser, IPL treatments to the affected area for 12-weeks
It is normal to experience an irritated/itchy sensation or a feeling of tightness and uneven swelling, and this will diminish over two weeks. We would advise taking paracetamol and antihistamines if you are medically fit, following the packaging instructions. If these continue or if other reactions occur, please contact the clinic immediately.
