Endolaser / Endolift: Benefits, Recovery, Downtime and What to Expect

Endolaser, also known as Endolift, is a minimally invasive laser treatment designed to improve skin firmness, support collagen production and help contour selected areas of the face and body. It is particularly popular for clients who want visible improvement in skin laxity or soft tissue heaviness, but who are not ready for, or do not want, surgery.

At M.E. Aesthetics, we most commonly recommend Endolaser for mid-face, lower-face, jawline and neck contouring, including early jowling, softening around the lower face, and mild to moderate skin laxity under the chin or neck.

What is Endolaser / Endolift?

Endolaser uses a fine fibre-optic laser placed beneath the skin through tiny entry points. The laser delivers controlled heat into the tissue, helping to stimulate collagen, tighten the skin from within, and remodel small areas of soft tissue.

Unlike surface laser treatments, Endolaser works under the skin rather than on top of it. This makes it different from treatments such as CO₂ laser resurfacing, chemical peels or microneedling. It is not designed to resurface the skin surface; it is designed to support tightening, contouring and tissue remodelling.

Endolaser is often described as a non-surgical or minimally invasive alternative for clients who want improvement without the downtime, scars or recovery associated with surgical lifting procedures. However, it is important to understand that it is not a surgical facelift and cannot remove large amounts of excess skin.

What areas can Endolaser treat?

Endolaser can be used on different areas depending on suitability, but in clinic we most commonly recommend it for:

• Lower face contouring
• Jawline definition
• Jowling
• Under-chin fullness
• Neck tightening
• Mid-face support
• Lower-face and neck lifting
• Mild to moderate skin laxity

For many clients, the lower face and neck are the areas where Endolaser is most beneficial, especially when the concern is soft heaviness, early laxity, loss of jawline definition or skin beginning to loosen under the chin.

Benefits of Endolaser / Endolift

Endolaser may help to:

• Improve mild to moderate skin laxity
• Support collagen production
• Improve firmness and skin quality
• Define the jawline
• Improve lower-face contour
• Reduce the appearance of early jowling
• Tighten the under-chin and neck area
• Remodel small areas of soft tissue
• Create a fresher, more lifted appearance over time

The main benefit is that results develop gradually and naturally. The treatment works with your body’s healing and collagen response, so the outcome is not usually instant or artificial-looking.

Who is Endolaser most suitable for?

Endolaser is most suitable for clients with mild to moderate laxity who want improvement in firmness, contour and definition without surgery.

It may be suitable if you:

• Have early jowling or softening of the lower face
• Feel your jawline is less defined than it used to be
• Have mild to moderate looseness under the chin or neck
• Want a more contoured lower face
• Want collagen stimulation and gradual tightening
• Are not ready for surgical options
• Understand that results are gradual and vary between clients

It is best suited to clients who still have reasonable skin quality and realistic expectations. It is not designed to replace surgery where there is significant loose skin or advanced laxity.

Who may not be suitable for Endolaser?

Endolaser may not be suitable, or treatment may need to be delayed, if you:

• Are pregnant or breastfeeding
• Have an active infection in the treatment area
• Have open wounds, broken skin or unhealed skin
• Have a known allergy to local anaesthetic or required treatment products
• Have a history of poor wound healing
• Have a history of keloid or hypertrophic scarring
• Are immunosuppressed or undergoing cancer treatment
• Have poorly controlled diabetes
• Take blood-thinning medication or medication that affects healing
• Have had recent surgery, trauma, burns or radiotherapy to the area
• Have severe skin laxity that would be better suited to surgery
• Are unable to follow aftercare or wear compression as advised

Suitability is always assessed during consultation. The aim is not just to decide whether the treatment can be done, but whether it is the right treatment for your concern, anatomy, skin quality and expectations.

What happens during treatment?

Before treatment, your practitioner will assess your face, skin quality, laxity, medical history and treatment goals. Clinical photographs may be taken to document your starting point and monitor progress.

The area is cleaned and prepared, and local anaesthetic is used to keep the treatment as comfortable as possible. Small entry points are made, and a fine laser fibre is passed beneath the skin. The laser energy is delivered in a controlled way to heat the tissue and stimulate tightening and collagen remodelling.

You may feel warmth, pressure, pulling or mild discomfort, but the treatment should be tolerable. The exact treatment time depends on the areas being treated.

What to expect after Endolaser

Some swelling, tenderness, bruising, firmness and altered sensation are normal after Endolaser. This is expected because the treatment works beneath the skin and stimulates a healing response.

Common things to expect include:

• Swelling
• Bruising
• Tenderness or a bruised feeling
• Tightness
• Firmness or lumpiness
• Numbness or “wooden” sensation
• Tingling, itching or small nerve-like zings
• Mild redness around entry points
• Temporary unevenness while swelling settles

Most side effects are temporary. Swelling commonly peaks in the first 24–48 hours and then starts to improve over the next few days. Some clinics report that swelling and bruising are usually most noticeable in the first week and often improve significantly by around two weeks, although mild residual swelling or firmness can last longer.

Recovery timeline

First 24–72 hours

This is usually when swelling is most noticeable. You may feel tender, tight, swollen or slightly bruised. The area may feel numb or firm.

During this stage, we usually advise:

• Wear your chin strap or compression garment as directed
• Sleep slightly elevated on 1–2 pillows
• Use gentle cold compresses if advised
• Do not apply ice directly to the skin
• Take paracetamol if needed
• Avoid alcohol for 48–72 hours
• Avoid heavy makeup and strong skincare
• Keep entry points clean and dry
• Avoid intense exercise and heat

Compression is especially important in the early stage, particularly for lower-face, jawline and neck treatments. Some patient guidance recommends compression for the first few days and then at night for a longer period, depending on practitioner instructions.

Days 3–7

Swelling should usually begin to reduce. Bruising, tenderness, firmness or numbness may still be present.

During the first week:

• Avoid strenuous workouts
• Avoid hot yoga, saunas, steam rooms and hot baths
• Avoid alcohol if swelling or bruising remains significant
• Use gentle skincare only
• Avoid retinoids, acids, scrubs and active skincare
• Protect the area from sun exposure
• Continue compression as advised

Weeks 2–4

Many clients feel much more comfortable by this stage, although the area may still feel firm, numb, tight or slightly uneven. This does not necessarily mean anything is wrong; tissue remodelling can take time.

Gentle lymphatic drainage massage may be recommended, this is what we will recommend if you are a skin gym member. For lower-face and neck treatments, we often recommend professional lymphatic drainage to help swelling settle and support recovery.

Avoid facials, chemical peels, microneedling, laser or other advanced treatments in the area for at least 4 weeks unless your practitioner advises otherwise.

Weeks 6–12 and beyond

This is when collagen stimulation and tightening become more noticeable. Some improvement may be seen earlier once swelling settles, but the main result develops gradually.

Collagen remodelling can continue for several months, so final results may take up to around 6 months to fully develop. Many Endolift providers describe results as progressive, with improvement continuing over several months after treatment.

How long does swelling last?

Swelling varies between clients and depends on the treatment area, treatment intensity, individual healing response and how closely aftercare is followed.

As a general guide:

• Swelling usually peaks within 24–48 hours
• Most visible swelling improves within 3–7 days
• Bruising may last around 1–2 weeks
• Mild residual swelling, firmness or lumpiness can last several weeks
• Numbness or altered sensation may take several weeks to fully settle

The neck and jawline can sometimes feel firm, tight or uneven while healing. This usually improves gradually.

Beforecare advice

Before your Endolaser appointment, please follow your personalised pre-treatment advice. General guidance may include:

• Avoid alcohol for 24–48 hours before treatment
• Avoid sunburn or active tanning before treatment
• Avoid taking non-essential blood-thinning medication or supplements unless medically required
• Do not stop prescribed medication without speaking to your GP or prescriber
• Arrive with clean skin and no heavy makeup on the treatment area
• Inform the clinic if your health, medication or skin changes before treatment
• Tell us if you develop infection, broken skin, swelling or illness
• Let us know if you have an event, holiday or flight planned soon after treatment

Blood-thinning medication and supplements can increase bruising risk, so this should always be discussed during consultation. Some guidance recommends avoiding non-essential blood-thinning agents before treatment, but prescribed medication should only be stopped with medical approval.

Aftercare advice

After treatment, your recovery is just as important as the treatment itself.

Please follow the advice below unless your practitioner gives different instructions:

• Wear your chin strap or compression garment as directed
• Keep entry points clean and dry
• Avoid touching or picking the treated area
• Avoid alcohol for 48–72 hours
• Avoid strenuous exercise for at least 7 days
• Avoid saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs and hot baths
• Avoid heavy makeup for at least 24 hours
• Avoid retinoids, exfoliating acids and scrubs during early healing
• Use only gentle, approved skincare
• Sleep with your head slightly elevated for the first few nights
• Avoid flying for 7 days where possible
• Protect the area from UV exposure
• Attend your review appointment if advised

Your practitioner will advise exactly how long to wear your compression. For lower-face and neck treatments, compression helps support the area, reduce swelling and encourage a smoother recovery.

When should I contact the clinic?

Please contact us promptly if you notice:

• One side suddenly becoming much more swollen than the other
• Pain that is worsening rather than improving
• Pain not relieved by paracetamol
• Increasing redness, heat or swelling
• Foul-smelling discharge
• Fever or feeling unwell
• Blistering, scabbing or dark skin discolouration
• Facial weakness, drooping or an uneven smile
• Any symptom that feels unusual or concerning

These complications are not expected, but we would always rather you contact us early so we can advise you properly.

Is Endolaser safe?

Endolaser is generally well tolerated when performed by an appropriately trained practitioner, with suitable patient selection, safe technique and correct aftercare. However, like any minimally invasive treatment, it does carry risks.

Common side effects include swelling, bruising, tenderness, temporary numbness and firmness. Less common risks include infection, prolonged swelling, pigmentation change, burns, contour irregularity or nerve irritation. Published discussion of subdermal laser complications includes burns, infection, neuropathy, bruising, swelling and tissue injury, which is why appropriate clinical assessment, technique and aftercare are important.

This is why your consultation and medical history are so important. The goal is to make sure the treatment is suitable for you and that you understand the expected recovery, benefits, risks and limitations before proceeding.

What results should I expect?

Endolaser results are usually gradual. You may notice some early improvement once swelling settles, but the main changes develop over weeks to months as collagen production and tissue remodelling continue.

Most clients should expect improvement rather than perfection. The treatment can support tightening and contouring, but it cannot stop natural ageing or create the same result as surgery.

You may need more than one treatment depending on your skin quality, laxity, anatomy and goals.

Final thoughts

Endolaser / Endolift can be a very useful treatment for clients wanting a more defined lower face, improved jawline contour, neck tightening and gradual collagen stimulation without surgery.

At M.E. Aesthetics, we particularly recommend it for suitable clients wanting mid-face, lower-face and neck contouring, especially where there is early laxity, soft jowling or loss of definition.

The most important part of treatment is choosing the right client, the right area and setting realistic expectations. When combined with careful consultation, good aftercare, compression, lymphatic support and patience, Endolaser can offer a natural-looking improvement that develops gradually over time.
