Can you eat and drink normally after lip fillers?

Honestly, we get asked this ALL the time! The answer is Yes!, you can generally eat and drink normally after getting lip fillers.  However, there are a few considerations to keep in mind to ensure a smooth recovery and optimal results:

  1. Immediate Post-Procedure Period:
    • Right after the procedure, it’s recommended to avoid eating or drinking for a short period. This allows the filler to settle without any unnecessary pressure or movement on the treated area.
  2. Avoid Hot or Spicy Foods:
    • For the first day or two after the procedure, it’s advisable to avoid hot or spicy foods, as well as any extremely cold items. These can potentially irritate the lips or contribute to increased swelling, but it’s mainly due to skin sensitivity!
  3. Be Gentle with Your Lips:
    • While eating and drinking, be gentle with your lips to avoid excessive movements. This can help minimize the risk of irritation or trauma to the treated area.
  4. Stay Hydrated:
    • Staying hydrated is important for overall health and can also contribute to a smoother recovery. Drinking water is generally fine after lip fillers, but be mindful of your sipping movements.
  5. Resume Normal Diet:
    • Once the initial immediate post-procedure period has passed, you can resume your normal diet. There are usually no long-term dietary restrictions associated with lip fillers.
  6. Be Mindful of Alcohol Consumption:
    • It’s advisable to limit alcohol consumption, especially in the first 24-48 hours after getting lip fillers. Alcohol can contribute to increased swelling and bruising, so avoid in the initial 48 hours. Moderation is key during the initial recovery period, for the first couple of weeks it could hinder your recovery speed but there are no complications.
  7. Follow Post-Treatment Instructions:
    • Always follow the post-treatment care instructions provided by your practitioner. They may give specific guidelines based on the type of filler used and individual considerations. All our recommended aftercare advice is here.
